January Morning - Promise Me - Magically Delicious - Hippity Hop

The concept is, that the full collection will have a colour that represents each month of the year. It will be released in 3 sets, with the next set available in April/May, and completing the collection with the last set being released in August/September. July will have two colours- one representing Canada Day ( July 1st) and one representing Independence Day ( July 4th).

 January Morning (January)  

A sheer sparkly white, with flashes of pink and blue. Like freshly fallen snow. This one is inspired by my Dad. You can read the story behind this polish by clicking here.

 One coat of January Morning, over white.

 

 Promise Me (February) 

 Holographic and opalescent hex glitter, and pin point holo glitter, floating in a sparkling pink. Soft and feminine. This one is inspired by my oldest daughter, who is a singer. She is releasing her first album of originals soon, and one of the songs is called Promise Me. 

Purchase of this polish comes with a copy of this song.

 Three coats of Promise me, with no undies.

 

Magically Delicious (March) 

Tiny green holographic glitter, in a clear base, along with gold squares, and gold hex glitter. 

Representing the Luck of the Irish, and a Pot of Gold.

One coat of Magically Delicious, over China Glaze Jolly Holly.

 

 Hippity Hop (April) 

Multi coloured pastel and holo glitter, and tiny purple glitter,  in a translucent sparkling  purple base. 

It's like little holo Easter eggs.

Two coats of Hippity Hop, over various base colours, and three coats alone (at 3 o'clock)

Due to popular demand, Shift Happens will also be available, but it is not part of the Calendar Girls collection.

All lacquer bases are B3Free, and are hand poured using glitters and pigments. 

They are available in full size, 15ml bottles, as well as 5ml mini bottles. (mini bottles are not shown above, and do not have the new custom label, but rather the original label, with just the lacquer name.)

Both sizes come embellished with a Swarovski crystal.

SoFlaJo Review and swatches of Dragon Heart

Happy Tuesday, polish lovers of the land =) or Happy Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras, or Day before Wednesday, or how ever you recognize today. Heck, it might even be your birthday, so if it is- Happy Birthday!

Today I have for you, some swatches and a review of  a new Indie line of polish called SoFlaJo. There are many terms floating around, that refers to hand poured nail polish- Indie, hand made, hand poured, home made, frankens,  they basically all refer to the same type of product. Indie, or hand poured is the term that I have been using, but really it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other. Sort of like how people use the terms soda, or soda pop, or pop, or even coke- to refer to canned or bottled beverages like coke, pepsi, 7-up or whatever.

Today's post features a relatively new member of the Indie community, SoFlaJo. Jody has released her first collection, called Year of the Dragon, with 8 sparkling, colour changing top coats, which can be applied over a variety of different base colours, for different effects.

 

 Jody packages her polishes with all kinds of fun things. And a little ribbon around the top of the polish, in a colour that co-ordinates with the colour changing effect of that polish.

Here, I have applied one coat of Dragon Heart over OPI Get in the Espresso Lane, and a topcoat of SV.

 

It applies smoothly,  and easily.

 

I applied it fairly thick, because I really wanted the colour changing effect to show, but you could easily get away with a thinner application.

 

You can easily see the colour changing effect, as well as sparkles.

Dragon Heart would look fabulous over any dark colour. It gives the illusion of being a multichrome polish, with the added bonus of giving different looks over different bases.

Lynnderella Connect the Dots over OPI Shorts Story

A mere few months ago, I was a Lynnderella virgin. I am now a die hard fan. Every polish she comes out with is seriously gorgeous, and usually even more gorgeous in real life than in the (millions of) swatches you will find on line. The complexity of each polish, while it may seem random, is actually very well thought out, and in my opinion shows Lynn's deep understanding of the use of colour.

We seem to be in a glitter trend at the moment, and I will admit, I was never a huge fan of glitter until fairly recently. I always loved it on everyone else, but was often not thrilled with it on myself. Part of the reason may have been the pain in the rumpus removal. If you find yourself struggling with removal, you must give the foil method a try. I promise you, you will look at glitters through different eyes. Part of the beauty of glitter, other than the obvious, is that most can be worn over lots of different colours, for different effects.
Another favourite use of mine for glitters, is making a jelly sandwich. I particularly like this because it gives you a less in your face glitter. If you are not familiar with a jelly sandwich, it uses a glitter and a jelly polish -which is a rather sheer creme, with a deep sort of translucent finish to it. Similar to Jello. It has colour, but is sort of see though, and looks deep and sort of squishy. You  want to layer the glitter in between two layers of the jelly polish. Hence the name Jelly Sandwich.  Start with your favourite base coat, treatment or ridge filler, then the idea is to lay down a base coat of the jelly polish (which for the record, is not actually labeled as a 'jelly', but rather identified as a jelly finish by lacquer enthusiasts. Good examples are the pinks and oranges from the OPI Texas collection) On top of your first coat of polish, you add a coat of a glitter. I find the chunkier glitters work the best, and especially silver ones. After that has dried for a few minutes, you add another coat of the jelly polish, which is sheer enough that you can see the glitter through it, but because the polish is sheer, it gives the effect of the glitter swimming in a pool of colour, rather than being right on top and in your face. Of course you want to use a nice shiny top coat for even more jelly squishy goodness. 

Back to the original post topic- Lynnderella Connect the Dots. This is the most unique colour in her collections, in my opinion. There is nothing else like it on the market. It's not your typical blingy sparkly glitter, but rather simply black and white, in a sparkling base. It looks best over creams, and almost gives the illusion of nail art. If you are a Lynnderella virgin, and are contemplating getting some but aren't sure which to get- I would highly recommend Connect the Dots. It's an easy application, and easy removal. And always stunning.

This time, I layered it over pink- OPI Shorts Story, which is one of my favourite pink cremes.

 

I will admit, that when I first saw Connect the Dots a few years ago, I did not see the appeal. I bought it, and NOW I get it. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that this is one of the few, that I think actually look better to the eye, at a normal distance rather than a macro shot.  The macro shots of most Lynnderellas are mesmerizing, and while I appreciate this one as well, I like the look in real life, better than pictures. Just get it. You won't regret it.

Lynnderella Thank Blue! over Avon Splendid Blue

I am sure most of you have seen that Lynn posted bottle shots and swatches of her latest collection, Lovely is as Lovely does?
It  looks quite beautiful to me, and I will be placing and order for a few lovelies for sure.
So, it seemed fitting to share a picture of a Lynnderella with you today. This is Thank Blue! Which is among my favourites of hers. I layered it over Avon Splendid Blue, which is also an amazing colour. In fact, most of the Avons I have, are wonderful

 This is Avon Splendid Blue, which is totally worth owning. The application and pigmentation is great, and the price is right.

Update

Happy New Year everyone! I do hope that your new year has started in the best way possible. It's hard to believe that we are halfway into January. We just got our first substantial snowfall of the season, so perhaps winter will seem shorter this year.

Just a quick update on things, since it's been awhile since I have posted. I am busily packing orders, and getting them out as fast as I can, and I am currently about halfway through.. I have moved my polish lab into a spare bedroom, and now I have little more space to work, and it's  better organized. I was slightly delayed getting the first orders out, due to supplies not arriving when I expected. That's holiday season shipping for you I suppose. So, no worries- if you haven't heard about  the status of your order, it is still coming. I now have enough supplies to finish up this round, and finish pouring the next collection.

Speaking of the next collection, it will be available as soon as I can get all the bottles poured.  The next collection will also be available at Llarowe. I will be open for orders for a few weeks at a time, so that I can process your orders more quickly.
