OPI Glacier Bay Blues and Color Club Sugar Plum Yum

Just a quick post today- but I really wanted to show you the super yumminess that is happening on my nails right now. First up is OPI Glacier Bay Blues which is a deep blue with a very slight dupchrome of purple and green. It is far more present in the bottle than it is on the nail, but it is still very pretty! I managed to buy this recently, and I am so glad to be able to knock it off my wish list. I applied one thin coat and one thicker coat. It can be a little patchy, so if you do thin coats you  might need three. The dry time was good though, so no worries.

You can see the purple a little better in this picture.

After admiring this alone for while, I decided to top it off with Color Club Sugar Plum Yum.
It has different sizes of green and purple glitter  in a clear base.
I love the way this looks over Glacier Bay Blues! It's got more sparkle in real life, and is quite appropriate for the holiday season.

I never used to be a fan of chunkier glitters, but lately I am really enjoying them.
Are you a fan of glitter? If so, what are your favourite types? Ones that are meant to layer over another colour, or ones that are meant to give full coverage? Do you prefer fine or chunky glitter?

Keep an eye out for new Girly Bits colours, coming soon.
It's been a productive week in the polish lab.

Thanks for looking!!

Sinful Happy Ending

Since I am waiting on supplies to arrive, to begin bottling the next Girly Bits collection, I thought I would dig through the vault of swatches I  have. I came across Sinful, Happy Ending. I happen to love this colour. It's a beautiful vibrant green with a gorgeous shimmer.

Then I topped it with OPI It's all Bright with me, which is a very sheer, almost colourless yellow based polish with just a hint of shimmer.

And on top of that, I added China Glaze, Golden Enchantment.

Thanks for looking.
Check back for more swatches, and new Girly Bits collections as well.
Cheers!

Kleancolor Golden Nightmare plus layering ideas

Well it's Monday again. When did Monday's start coming so quickly? I think Monday and Friday need to have a talk, and help each other out. Friday is always late, and Monday is always early.

We spent the weekend in Niagara Falls. It's an annual trip we take in memory of an Aunt of a friend of mine. Eight years ago Vicky wanted to go to Vegas, but she was unable to, due to her poor health. So she and a group of her friends and family went to Niagara Falls instead. Vicky passed away that following year, and now every year her friends and family go back to the Falls, for a memorial weekend dubbed Falls-a-Booza. They have picked up new Falls-a-Booza members along the way (us included- this is our 4th year), and occasionally we pick up a random person in the Falls who joins us on our Pub Crawl that year. We hit the Casino on Friday night, and play the Blazing 777's (Vicky's favourite) and on Saturday we start the pub crawl some time after noon, and have one (ok sometimes 2) drinks at each bar on our circuit, usually ending up at the Spicy Olive, and having shawarmas on the walk stumble back to our hotel room.  It's always a good time, with great people, and I think it's fantastic that they honour Vicky in this way. Cheers!

On to today's post- Since I have been on a green kick, I thought I would show you another recent green acquisition. Kleancolor Golden nightmare. It's a dark blackened green base with goulishly green/golden glitters in it, and perfect for this time of year.

 Kleancolor Golden Nightmare

Kleancolor Golden Nightmare

Of course I had to try layering something over it because, well why not?
This is Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure over Golden Nightmare.
If you happened to miss out of the limited edition Hidden Treasure, Nubar 2010 is a dupe for it.
HT is a must have in my collection, as it prettifies just about anything.

Pretty awesome right? It adds to the whole Fall feel with the orange and green flakies. ♥

Kleancolor Golden Nightmare layered with Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure on top.

This is another layering combo idea- Kleancolour chunky holo clover (which is neither chunky nor holo, but whatever)  over Golden nightmare. Again with some green and orange, but glitter this time rather than flakies. This is out side in the full sun, and that really brings out all the colours.

China Glaze Tinsel Town

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend! I was furiously working away at getting all my Girly Bits polishes filled and labeled etc, and also working on creating a page with ordering information. So- take a gander up at the top of my blog and you will see...

**insert drum roll here**

Ta-Dah!!! A page dedicated to ordering info for the Girly Bits first release called Sea's the Day!!

Or access it by clicking here

Yay! I can finally say it is officially available. After much interest was generated from the previews I posted, and many emails asking when they would be available for sale, I can now say they are available and I am taking orders. All the pricing and ordering info is on the page which you can access by clicking the tab above named 'Ordering info for Girly Bits polishes'
I am very excited, and pleased at the response so far. I thank you all for your continued interest and support, and I assure you I will do my very best to fill all orders in a timely fashion. I am-at the moment- a one woman show doing this for the first time so while I don't anticipate any issues, if there are any unexpected delays I will be sure and let you know.

On to today's swatches.
This is China Glaze Tinsel Town. I picked it up a few weeks ago, along with a few other Christmas colors ( I haven't even processed the idea of Halloween yet!) It is a densely packed mix of small and medium silver-grey glitters in a blue tinted base that is for the most part clear, but still tinted blue. It applied well, and reminds me a little of granite. It's sparkly but not over the top in your face blingy. Totally appropriate for the holidays or New Years Eve, but it doesn't scream "oh look, I am a holiday polish!"

Outside, full sun

Outside, full sun

Inside, no flash. Due to the lighting and the pink walls in my salon, it looks like there are some bald spots, but that is just the reflection of the pink walls on the larger pieces of glitter. It is quite dense. I forget how many layers this is here, sorry. It is for sure not more than three.

Here I layered KleanColor Chunky Holo Fuchsia over it and it turned it a lovely purple.

Thanks for looking!!

Love & Beauty Blues

Here are a few colours by Love & Beauty. I have several of their colours and I love them all so far. The formulas are easy to work with, the price point is amazing and the colours are very trendy. I picked up these at Forever 21, for less than $3 each.

As you can see, they do blues very well, which is a great thing because I love blues.

I Love a Good Layer! Layering experiment with Icing No Whinning and Pure Ice Busted

Ok so that was a cornball post title, but that's what happens when it's sweltering outside and you have to stay inside all day to avoid the inevitable melting.
Today I bring you *drumroll* No Whinning by Icing. It`s a gorgeous vampy blackened purple packed with burgundy shimmer. Inside it basically looks black, but outside WOW it comes to life. The shimmer just glows. It has smooth and easy application, and great shine. I am often quite impressed with the polishes from Icing. The price is right, the quality is usually good or great, and they are always on the ball with trends. They get an A+ from me.

Isn`t she pretty?

Here I have topped it with Busted from Pure Ice which is a sheer light purple with violet micro-shimmer in it. It's great layered over all kinds of colours.

Just gorgeous!

Layering polishes is so much fun! Sometimes you end up with such a surprise, it feels like a brand new polish!

China Glaze Metro Collection- Westside Warrior, Midtown Magic and Concrete Catwalk

I was very excited to see the new fall 2011Metro Collection by China Glaze out at the beauty supply!! I only picked up three, but wow am I impressed! I may go back for more. The formula on all three is exceptional. Smooth and highly pigmented. They are almost one coaters.

*EDIT* I  picked up a few more and you can find that post here

This is Concrete Catwalk. Dark grey. Gorgeous. Smooth. Love.

Concrete Catwalk with Heartbreaker by Pure Ice on top. I love Heartbreaker so much. It just makes everything magical.

Here we have Midtown Magic, and it is just that. Magic. It is a gorgeous deep red-based brown with gold and red micro-shimmer. It is sort of a warmer version of Color Club With Abandon, but it has WAY better application. Below is a comparison.

With Abandon is a cooler more ashy black based colour, and Midtown Magic is warm brown.

Midtown Magic again, with top coat.

The shimmer is just gorgeous!

Westside Warrior is a khaki green. Slightly yellow based, but not so much that it makes my hands look red.

Perfect colour for a camouflage design mani.

This is in the direct sunlight.

China Glaze Westside Warrior with Tarnished Gold crackle on top, and top coat.

Here I topped Westside Warrior with Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure on the pinky and ring fingers, and Orly Amp'd on the middle and index fingers.

And lastly I tried Fairy Dust by China Glaze over Concrete Catwalk. It was ok, but not my favourite. CC it fabulous all on its own.

This collection gets an A+ from me, although I am not ready to wear fall colours yet. :)

thanks for looking.
