Guest Post with LyLyNails - Nail Whitening Tutorial

Hello everyone!
First of all I'd like to thank Pam for the opportunity to guest post.  My name is Sahyly from LyLyNails on IG. Today I'd like to share a little whitening treatment I've been doing for about 2 yrs already and it has been working wonderfully for me.
It's a soak. I do this once a week after my normal nail care routine. I'm sure you can find these ingredients in your kitchen. You'll need the following:

Mix these in the following order:
1st water
2nd vinegar
3rd baking soda
Lastly the oil and quickly submerge your nails in it. The bubbles will work to whiten your nails. Soak for about 10 mins or less depending on the amount of staining you have. You can also do this soak each time you remove polish if your stains are bad. Once the stains are pretty much gone, to maintain just do it once a week.

Also, one thing I like to do after is scrub my nails with a hand scrub and a nail brush. Please remember like any other treatment this will not work with just one soak. It's a process, takes some time. You just need to be consistent and dedicated.
I hope you try this and please feel free to let me know how it worked for you! Thanks for reading, bye!! Best Blogger Tips

Guest Post Series, with The Polish Playground - Blue and Coral Chevron Nail Art Tutorial

Today, I welcome Lisa, from The Polish Playground. Lisa is a fairly new blogger, and she always has a great mix of nice clean, colour accurate swatches, and nail art.
I love the chevrons she did here. She very creatively made her own nail art stickers!! Read on to find out how.
Thank you Lisa for sharing with us today!

Hello everyone! I'm Lisa from The Polish Playground and its such an honor to be guest posting for Pam. This is actually only my second time doing a guest post so I wanted to try out a design I've never attempted on my blog. I recently bought a set of craft scissors from Micheals so I thought why not try out some chevron nails. I've always wanted to do one but for some reason never got the chance to. Let's see how it turned out.

I started with American Apparel American Denim on my pinky and ring finger. For the rest of my nails, I have on American Apparel Neon Coral. For my pinky and pointer finger, I did a simple gradient using Sally Hansen Bling-tastic. Prior to painting my nails, I painted a coat of American Apparel American Denim on parchment paper and allowed it to dry over night. With my zig zag scissors from Michaels, I cut some chevron stripes out of it. Then I peeled the polish off the parchment paper to reveal homemade nail decals. While the base color on my ring and middle finger was still tacky, I applied the chevron stripes on, making sure to press it down. Lastly, I applied Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.

I love how these turned out! I had a bit of trouble with the chevron stripes curling when I applied top coat so I'll have to practice more with it or try using scotch tape instead. Let me know what you think about this manicure below. If you want to see more from me, check out my blog, The Polish Playground. Thank you again to Pam for allowing me to guest post over at her blog. Have a great day everyone! Best Blogger Tips

The evolution of nail art

Happy Saturday Everyone! I will have a VERY exciting announcement after the weekend, but for today I have some nail art for you, with pictures of the stages of how it happened, start to finish.

I started off with a base coat of Revlon Carbonite, (which I got from the lovely Stacy at Parlez-Vous Ongles) which is supposed to be a dupe for Chanel Graphite. I don't have graphite, but from the pics I have seen it's close enough for me.

First thing I did was add random black dots in varying sizes. I used Wet n Wild black creme, which is my favourite black ever!

After the black dots had dried a little bit, I went back over the black dots with Carbonite, making those dots a little smaller than the black dots, leaving a ring of black showing.

Then I went over them each again, using an even smaller dotting tool and Sally Hansen X-treme wear in White On.

And finally I added tiny white dots randomly in between the larger dots, just to accent it and finish the look.

Cute and easy.

Stay tuned for the announcement coming soon.

Thanks for looking!!

Simple Nail Art

Happy Monday Everyone. It's raining here again. It was nice on the weekend which is a good thing because we spent the weekend at the cottage, and my Mom and Brother came for the first time ever.
Today I have some simple nail art for you.  Hope you enjoy!

The base is Zoya Dannii. It's quite a unique colour that reads as both a shimmer and a foil on the nail, but in the bottle it shows the glass fleck that Zoya is known for.

If you want to know how to do this, all I did was paint two black lines with a thin striper brush, then added black dots along side of the black lines. After that I went over the black stripes with a metallic silver to accent, placing the silver directly next to the black lines- Still touching but not directly on top. Then I added smaller silver dots directly on top of the black dots.

Thanks for looking!

Joe Fresh Mint, and simple nail art

Creative post title right? Ha! Oh well, I can't be creative all the time I guess right? >.<

Today's post features another Joe Fresh polish-Mint. It is a lovely mint green polish with a beautiful shine. It does require 3 coats for complete coverage, as is common with most mint greens. Mint green and yellow polishes are notorious for having a slightly streaky application and both will usually require 3 coats. Joe Fresh tends to have a fairly quick dry time, so I don't mind. Plus it's only $3.33 a bottle, so it earns extra points for being easy on the wallet.

Joe Fresh Mint

Here I added a side swipe of Joe Fresh Cobalt,
then three large-ish dots of white.
(I used Sally Hansen White On)
Directly on top of the white dots, I added dots in Mint and Cobalt
 just slightly smaller
so that some of the white dots peek out from below.

You could stop here and top coat if you like.

But, you know me- I never stop there :)
Here I added even smaller dots on top of the Cobalt and Mint dots, in the opposite colours.

Here is the finished look.
Cute and simple.

If you do not have a dotting tool, a skinny arts and crafts paint brush with a rounded tip on handle end of it works well for the large dots. A skinny makeup brush, (the end, not the bristles) or the end of a BIC pen works as well. What you are looking for is something with a semi rounded/semi flat end that is a little smaller than the diameter of a pencil eraser. In fact, a pencil eraser that has been worn down a little would work well unless you have really tiny nails. For the medium size dots, if you open up a bobby pin and use the rubber end, it's perfect. For tiny dots, a tooth pic will work.

Happy polishing!
Do let me know if you try out this look, and please feel free to request any colour combinations or design ideas. I would be more than happy to accommodate your requests.

Thanks for looking!

Rainbow Yin and Yang Nail art

Do you ever have have a great idea for some nail art late at night, and you hope you can remember it in the morning? That's what happened to me with this design. And it didn't turn out exactly how I imagined it, but that's the fun of free hand nail art- you just go with the flow and make it work. I wouldn't classify this as a total fail or anything, I just don't LOVE it.
Anywhoo.. On with the products and a little how-to.

Here is the finished product

These are the products I used
Sally Hansen White On, Wet n Wild Black Creme, Icing Purple Passion,
Massini Orange Hot, Hard Candy Frenzy

China Glaze Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, Joe Fresh Cobalt, Icing Lime Martini
Sally Hanson Hidden Treasure, and Seche Vite are added later and are not in the design photo above. I had meant to put Hidden Treasure over the white before I did the black and the dots. But apparently the brain cells that help me do things in order are on vacation with my creative ones. Oh well. I improvised.
These are the dotting tools I used for this design, with my index finger for size reference.

First I applied two coats of Sally Hansen X-Treme Wear White On. I am often asked what my favourite white is. Whites are notoriously difficult to apply with out streaks. I have two the I can usually depend on, one being this one and the other is Sinful Snow Me White. I have also used OPI Alpine Snow with success in the past. One thing I always do when applying white, is do a thick coat in as few strokes as possible. I have also found using a base coat that is somewhat matte, gives you better adhesion and less drag.
*this is where I meant to apply Hidden Treasure*

I wanted to make a nice crisp line with the black polish, so I first drew a diagonal line with a black striping polish by Colour Club across each nail, then filled in half with Wet n Wild Black creme. Which by the way is THE best black cream Ever! It's a one coater, shiny, wears well and it's cheap. WIN

As it turned out, with the way I applied the dots and such later, I didn't need to make a really neat line with the black, so you don't necessarily need to do that step, and you and just go ahead an swipe the Wet n Wild black polish across your nail.

Then using my largest dotting tool, I applied three black dots directly where the black meets the white. I did three dots, but you can do whatever fits, and adjust the size of your dots to the size of your nail. You want to leave enough space in between the black dots to add white dots of the same size, to give the Yin and Yang effect.

Here I have added white dots of the same size  in between the black dots, and you can see the Yin and yang shape starting to come together. I went back in with a smaller dotting tool and some more black and neatened up some of the black dots that were crowded by the white dots. next time I would do the dots a little smaller.

Here I have used a medium size dotting tool and added white dots on top of the black dots, being careful to center them on the black dot so I left a little edge of black.

Then I added the coloured polishes listed above on the small white dots (that were placed over the black dots) as well as the larger white dots that were placed in between the original black dots. I mixed the yellow and lime green together because the yellow was too sheer. And I chose my colours in order of the rainbow with is ROYGBV. (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet)  Even though the colours are not exactly the rainbow colours, I usually find that if I used the ROYGBV format and whatever polishes fit the best in those categories, then the colours seem to flow the best. I often substitute pink for the Red in the spectrum, and Purple for the Violet.

Because I can't leave a manicure alone, I added Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure. My original intention of applying it over the white only, would have been better I think.

And there you  have it.
Thanks for looking!

Covered in Flowers nail art

Hello!
I have returned from vacation rested, relaxed and buried in laundry. That first day post-vacation is such a killer right? I always said I need a vacation after being on vacation. We spent a week with family and friends at our favourite spot, the gem of Lake Erie- Pelee Island.

Today's post is some nail art that I did right before I left and did not get a chance to post. The base is a fantastic purple by OPI- Pamplona Purple. As usual with purples, it is difficult to capture the colour accurately. Purples usually show their bluer side for the camera.

So here is the finished look-

This is a deceiving nail art. It is actually quite simple to do, but always looks impressive.

I started with a base of OPI Pamplona Purple. This picture is probably the most colour accurate one. The actual colour is a little deeper.
I would say it's more like this, but a little more red perhaps?

After the base was thoroughly dry, I used a small detailing brush and added flowers in a complimentary colour. Again purples don't photograph accurately, but I believe this was  Zoya Malia.
I started off by placing the largest flower first. I didn't put in anywhere in particular, just randomly on each nail.  I loaded the brush with a fair bit of polish, and placed each petal in a rough circle. They do not have to be symmetrical or even. In fact, in my opinion the more uneven they are the more interesting it looks. The centers do not have to be neat either because you can make that look neat when you add the dot in the middle. I did a mixture of sizes for the largest flower, with some having 6 petals, and some 7. Whatever fits really. For the most part I tried to not let each petal touch the next one but if a few do, no big deal.
After the petals for the largest one are done, I start with the flower right beside it. I usually try to place them so that the two petals of the first  flower straddle a petal from the second flower. I continued filling in the majority of the rest of the nail with flowers of different sizes, and part flowers at the edges of the nail.
After all the petals were done, I did the centers of the flowers with a coordinating lighter pinkish purple. Again, I forget exactly ( this was before the brain cell defeating vacation). And to finish it off I placed a few very tiny white dots in the centers of the largest flowers, just for accent. Totally not necessary.
After it was all thoroughly dry I topped it all with my favourite quick dry top coat, Seche Vite.

I hope you enjoy this look, and do let me know if you try it out.
I have had many requests to tutorials, so I will try to take pictures of the steps so I can at the very least do picture tutorials for now. I hope to do some video tutorials as well.

Thanks for looking!
